Annual Environmental Sustainability Statement

As part of our vision to become one of the most environmentally sustainable universities in the world, we have set ourselves some
ambitious targets!

In 2014, MMU developed a new Environmental Sustainability Strategy. Taking us from 2014 – 2020, the strategy sets
out the actions MMU needs to take to achieve our aims and become a Sustainable University.

We have recently published our 2013-14 Annual Environmental Sustainability Statement- which reports on the progress made towards achieving the aims and objectives as set out in our Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

The annual statement outlines how we are doing- detailing our sustainability achievements within our estates and operations, learning, teaching and research as well as environmental management and sustainability engagement activities.

Key Highlights from 2013-14 include:

  • Carbon reduction of -22.8% against 2005-6 baseline
  • Launch of the NUS Responsible Futures Programme
  • Reuse and Recycling rate of 40.5% achieved againast a 2005-6 baseline
  • Green Gown International Award winners
  • Maintained 1st Class award People and Planet University League
  • Water consumption reduced by -15.4% against a 2010 baseline

Placing environmental sustainability alongside graduate employability is a key priority, and just as with graduate employability we report on our progress each year in our annual statement.
